Rich Dad Poor Dad

on July 1, 2007

The book basically speaks about how to build assets first instead of turning your money into an instant liability. That way, you won’t end up working for money but you’ll have your money working for you. Changing our financial habits may not be easy primarily because of our fears of losing our hard-earned money, but once you’ve read this book, it will suddenly make you think and re-think of the insights mentioned by the author.

– Life is the best teacher of all. Most of the time, life does not talk to you. It just sort of pushes you around. Each push is life saying “Wake up. There’s something I want you to learn.”

– Life pushes all of us around. Some give up. Others fight. A few learn the lesson and move on. Most quit and a few fight. If you learn the lesson, you’ll grow up into a wise, wealthy and happy young man. If you don’t you’ll spend your life blaming a job, low pay or your boss for your problems. Or if you’re the kind of person who has no guts, you just give up every time life pushes you. If you’re that kind of person, you’ll live all your life playing it safe, doing the right things, saving yourself for some event that never happens. Then you die a boring old man. You spent playing it safe, doing the right things. But the truth is, you let life push you into submission. You really wanted to win, but the fear of losing was greater than the excitement of winning.

– The poor and the middle class work for money. The rich have money work for them.

– Most people have a price. And they have a price because of human emotions named FEAR and GREED. First, the fear of being without money motivates us to work hard and then once we get that paycheck, greed or desire starts us thinking about all the wonderful things money can buy. The pattern of get up, go to work, pay bills, get up is then set. This is called a RAT RACE.

– INTELLIGENCE solves problems and produces money. Money without FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE is money soon gone.

It’s not how much money you MAKE, it’s how much money you KEEP.

– You must know the difference between an ASSET and a LIABILITY, and buy assets. ASSETS put money in your pocket; LIABILITY is something that takes money out of your pocket.

– If you want to be rich, you’ve got to READ and UNDERSTAND numbers.

The rich acquire assets and the poor and middle class acquire liabilities.

– If your pattern is to spend everything you get, most likely an increase in cash will just result in an increase in spending. Thus the saying “A fool and his money is one big party.”

– Spending habits causes us to seek more income. If you find you have dug yourself into a hole…STOP DIGGING.

– Great opportunities are not seen with your eyes. They are seen with your mind.

– We learn by making mistakes. Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.

– It is what you know that is your greatest wealth. It is what you do not know that is your greater risk.

– JOB is an acronym for Just Over Broke.

– Winning means being unafraid to lose.

– John D. Rockefeller: “I always try to turn every disaster into an opportunity.”

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one. So get a few laughs and do the best you can. Don't have an ideal to work for. That's like riding towards the mirage of a lake.
