The QA telepresence robot by Anybots roams the floor at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. The 5 foot (152cm) tall robot’s telepresence is managed by a screen showing who is talking and speakers so the recipient can hear them. The robot’s user operates QA from an online laptop computer anywhere in the world, talking through a headset and controlling the robots movement. An Anybots representative suggested a possible application could be for US companies manufacturing products in Chinese factories. Instead of having an American manager travel periodically to China to explain and oversee production, the manager could stay in the US and via the internet have QA embody him as he oversees and instructs workers on the Chinese factory floor. Taser International vice president of communications Steve Tuttle displays a Mossberg Less Lethal Shotgun (LLS) that fires a Taser round in a shotgun shell. Tuttle said the 12-gauge pump-action shotgun was specifically designed to work with the X236 law enforcement model Taser so there would be no possibility of accidentally loading it with lethal ammunition. The shotgun fires what is called an extended range electronic projectile (XREP) 75-100 feet – three times farther than a normal Taser – and is not tethered to the gun.
