Friday Visit: paella and sisig, cheesy-ness, unexpected revelations and a stronger friendship

on December 13, 2009

Last weekend was a surprise, fun and happy. A friend close to my heart (naks) visited me last Friday in the flat. He suggested that we would just cook something while he was here and I agreed. During our Thursday night chat, he asked me to choose between paella and sisig Pampanga. I asked one of my flatmates which one she preferred and she chose the latter. I told him I wanted paella but my flatmate preferred the sisig. He said he wanted me to taste his paella, which is his specialty, so I decided that he should cook me both.

Immediately after his arrival, we went right away to Spinney’s to buy the ingredients we needed. We didn’t find chorizo de bilbao so we had to buy an alternative of it which was quite pricey. We also weren’t able to buy a shrimp broth cube. *sigh*

The moment we had all our ingredients (except for the broth cube), we headed home and started cooking. I know the sisig was a bit tedious to prepare and cook and he kept whining the whole time:

Him: Kung hindi lang kita mahal! Ang trabaho nito eh.
Me: Hahaha! Minsan lang kita gawing slave eh. Pabayaan mo na kong abusuhin ka. Ngayon lang naman eh.

After hours of preparation, cooking, frequent whining, in-between smoking and waiting, we were finally done. He said his paella was not the paella he wanted because of the lack of the real ingredients we should have used in the first place. Still, I loved it. And the sisig? He just loved it more! Both dishes were really scrumptious and my flatmates even said the same thing. We were all grateful. =)

The cheesy line thrown that night after all the kulitan and asaran and after I was called and compared to so many things:

Him: Para kang Coke…
Me: Ano na naman??! 1.5 ha?! Che!
Him: No. I was supposed to say para kang Coke: sakto.
Me: Hahahaha! Ang cheesy! Kelan ka pa naging cheesy?? Hahahaha!

And we just kept laughing the whole time.

We would constantly argue and make up. That’s how we used to be and that’s how we still are. And he was right. We have been through so many things already. And we both know we didn’t want to ruin what we already have. He knew and even said “Sagad talaga sa buto galit mo sa’kin nun no? Talagang wala ng space. Punung-puno ng galit.” I said yes.

It took us a while to be really this open and honest to each other now. And with just one wrong move, we could lose it all and may never get it back. That’s what scares me. That’s why I am just being more careful and cautious this time. And I know he’s aware of it. This is better. And we both know that.
