Here’s a look at the key features in the latest product to join Apple’s iFamily

The shiny new iPad aims to take over the small computer market with a host of new applications and a fresh take on existing features. Take a look at what’s in store.

Boasting 10 hours of battery life, and a month on standby along with in-built WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, the iPad caters to those on the move.

The iPad will be available in a variety of models. The basic 16GB capacity iPad will retail in the USA for a cool $499. 32GB and 64GB are $599 and $699 respectively.

Taking the iPhone’s touch-screen technology one step, the iPad comes complete with a built in keyboard that (like the iPhone) switches direction according to perspective.

Weighing at a nimble 1.5 lbs (0.68 kg) and only half an inch thick, the shiny new iPad appears to be the ideal device for a mobile user.

The new device will be available in the United States and key markers in late March (basic WiFi model, 3G ships in April). International deals are currently set for June.

A number of applications will be available for use on the iPad, one of them designed by the New York Times that allows users to not only read the news but also view the latest videos and multimedia.

Another key feature is the launch of Apple’s new online book store. Modeled on the highly successful music store, iTunes, iBooks is set to change the way people read.

The iPad’s main draw is it’s spectacular 9.7 inch color multi-touch screen. This interactive screen follows the same finger commands that were first wowed the world when the iPhone was launched a few years ago – pinch to zoom in, slide to move left or right, up or down.

No stranger to shock and awe, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs demos the latest member of the Apple family to a cheering audience
