Joaqui’s Firsts: Blackout Experience

on July 7, 2012

It was raining non-stop that day and the wind was blowing hard against our windows. We have closed all windows and doors because of the strong gush of wind coming in.

It was already 7:15pm and I, together with my one month old son, Joaqui, were watching the evening news when all of a sudden a loud thunder was heard and then the power went off. My mom was at the kitchen at that time and I was breastfeeding my son. I suddenly could not move because I could not see a single thing! My mom came back with a candle and a flashlight.

The first thing that came to my mind when this happened was Joaqui. How was he going to sleep now? He has never slept without an a/c. Would using a fan do for him tonight in case the electricity took long to come back?

For almost an hour, Joaqui was behaved. But just after that, he started to become restless and started crying. It was already 8:45pm. I started praying that we would have electricity again soon. Fortunately, my prayer was wanswered in an instant.

I was able to put Joaqui to sleep the moment we reached the room and I turned on the a/c.

As of today, he already has experienced three blackout situations.

MIRAGE

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one. So get a few laughs and do the best you can. Don't have an ideal to work for. That's like riding towards the mirage of a lake.
