Joaqui and His Free Gerber

on March 11, 2013

Ever since Joaqui reached 6 months, I have started giving him solid food. Most of the time, I would buy veggies like carrots, potatoes, broccoli and fruits such as bananas and apples and put them in a blender for him to eat.

By the time he reached his 8th month, I decided to buy him Cerelac. I bought two flavors: banana with wheat and chicken with mixed vegetables. I decided that this is less time-consuming to prepare when I am very busy as compare to blending each veggie or mashing up each fruit. I considered buying Gerber at that time but one small container already costs around Php60 and I was worried that if Joaqui did not like the taste of it, it would just all go to waste. Plus, it looks much more the same of the veggies/fruits I put in a blender so why spend more?

One time, I came across Gerber’s FB page. They were giving out freebies if you visit their farm app. So I did. Basically, the application explains how a Gerber product is made ensuring that the baby food they sell is fresh, etc. I was still in Jordan when I visited the app and I put our land line number instead of my Globe number as my contact number so I was kinda worried that they might call first and no one would answer at home and I won’t get the freebie. Anyway, I eventually came home and  still no Gerber.

Until one day, my mom told me that the freebie has arrived! I was very excited, naturally.

The free sample from Gerber

I immediately opened it up for Joaqui to try. They were in two flavors: banana and broccoli. I felt banana is safer to try first on whether Joaqui would like it or not. So I opened the container of the banana flavor and tried giving it to him. He did not like it. I tried tasting it (yes, I also try to taste what my son eats so that I understand why he doesn’t like it) and it’s kinda sour. It’s not the usual taste of banana especially since my son was having banana flavor of Cerelac. So he didn’t like it. But I tried giving it to him again so that my free sample won’t just get wasted. He only managed to eat 4 spoonfuls and after that he was already turning his face away from me or his hand would push my hand away.

After eating the free sample of Gerber

I put the remaining food inside the ref for me to try again giving it the next day but he really didn’t like it so I switched again to Cerelac, which he ate. The next day, I tried the broccoli flavor. He loves broccoli whenever I blend one for him so i was hoping he would like this one better than the banana flavor.

The moment he tasted it, he was asking for more until half of the jar was already empty! Yay! 😀 I gave him Cerelac in the afternoon for variation and the next day, he finished the whole jar of broccoli. 🙂
