My Trip to Jordan: St. George Church in Madaba

on July 29, 2013

On our first day of the 3-day trip that I had planned, we first went to St. George Church in Madaba. There was an entrance fee of JOD1 but it was Mo, the driver/tour guide, who paid for it because it was already included in the package that we agreed upon.

Mo just stayed outside of the church while the three of us went in. In other words, we had no idea what we were looking at once we were inside the church. We didn’t know the stories behind those mosaics hanging up the walls of the church nor the history of that mosaic map on the floor.

I ended up just taking pictures of the place. While we were still inside, one group of tourists came with a guide and Marian and I tried to listen to what their guide was saying about the history of the church. Hehe.

Before leaving the place, all of us lighted a candle and prayed even if it is a Greek Orthodox Church and not a Catholic Church.

Unfortunately, I was too excited that day that I didn’t even try checking the souvenir shops that can be found just outside the church. I wasn’t able to bring home a magnet with the emblem of Madaba on it. 😦 I always like to buy magnets that has the name or the landmark of the place that I have been to.

MIRAGE

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one. So get a few laughs and do the best you can. Don't have an ideal to work for. That's like riding towards the mirage of a lake.
