Nothing complements the strength and character of a man quite like his watch. Here’s a selection of distinct time pieces, at different price ranges, that will prove that you measure up in any situation. This list is compiled with the help of Tariq Malik, the managing partner and co-founder of Momentum.

Longines Hydro Conquest, $1,254
If you’re looking for a sporty statement on your wrist, the Longines Hydro Conquest will not disappoint. In true Longines tradition, this is a high performance timepiece that combines technical innovation and elegance; it also comes in standout bright colours.

Oris Artelier Complication, $2,590
For a busy young executive who’s a frequent traveller, a watch with a 2nd time zone and day and date dials can be a useful functionality. Add to that a robust, but polished look, and the Oris Artelier Complication Moon Phase more than fits the bill.

Omega Seamaster Professional, $2,700
Watches aren’t just about telling time, but a way to capture time itself. In this case, it’s the year 1995: James Bond – channelled by Pierce Brosnan in Golden Eye – debuted the Omega Seamaster Professional which features a striking black dial, co-axial chronometer, and 600m water resistance and date window.

Tudor Black Bay, $3,733
The Black Bay is a culmination of the very best of Tudor dive watches of the 20th century. Expertly finished, it became an instant classic and had even the mightiest of vintage Rolex collectors clamouring to get their hands on one.

Rolex Datejust, $4,605 (vintage)
Three words: Prestige… Craftsmanship… Precision… The Datejust is the modern archetype of the classic watch. It has aesthetics and functions that transcend time, and is one of the most recognised and recognisable watches.

The Carrera 1887 Jack Heuer Edition, $5,500
Part of TAG Heuer’s 2013 Carrera range is a stand-out piece in every way: a great classic chronograph dial, with a bold design and a concept watch case, reflecting the timing and stopwatch heritage of the brand. Named after the famous “La Carrera Panamericana” rally that was held from 1950-54, the original watch was the first Heuer model with its own model name.

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, $5,995
The story is that the Reverso was created in 1931 at the request of British polo players in India who wanted a watch that would hold up to the roughness of the sport. In time, the Reverso case became a very distinguishing feature, less to do with functionality and more and more with style.

Vintage Rolex GMT Master, $6,812
Launched in 1954, the Rolex GMT Master was created in collaboration with Pan Am Airways for their pilots and navigators (GMT is the time zone required for all aviation planning). There have been only two editions since – The Rolex GMT Master II released in the 80s, and the 50 year anniversary edition in 2005, which makes this watch highly sought-after.

IWC Portuguese Chrono, $8,692
For purist watch aficionados the watch of choice will always be an IWC. Universally praised for its elegant and timeless design, featuring the in-house IWC chronograph calibre 89361, the IWC Portuguese Chrono is one of the finest watches in the IWC line-up.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Zenith”, $13,600
To call a luxury watch ‘necessary’ is a bit of an overstatement…except for when the watch in question is the iconic Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with a Zenith movement. From crystal to the clasp this watch is faultless. It’s worth every dollar of your bonus!
